Title: Towards effective design and construction of high strength steel in buildings/高强钢材钢结构在建筑工程中的设计与应用
Abstract: Nowadays, there is an urgent need for the construction industry worldwide, in particular, in many major cities in Asia, to improve their productivity through innovative use of materials, design and construction as there are many large scale infrastructure projects under construction as well as under planning. With a steady decrease in the construction costs of structural steelwork owing to abundant supply of Chinese steel materials, there is a growing interest to use high performance steel materials in heavily loaded building structures.
This presentation reports various research projects carried out at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University over the past three years to promote effective design and construction of quality Q690 steel materials in building structures:
· structural performance of steel materials and welded sections under cyclic loads
· residual stresses in welded sections
· structural performance of welded steel H-sections under i) compression, and ii) combined compression and bending
Moreover, key objectives of the CNERC together with its research programmes will also be highlighted.
