Over past three decades, the civil engineering industry in China has being booming and advancing at worldwide unprecedented pace, which has made indispensable contribution to the Chinese economic and social development and the improvement of life quality of the Chinese. While entering the new era, the civil engineer is facing a string of increasingly severe problems such as depletion of natural resource, pollution of environment, lack of structural durability, etc. These highlight the desperate need of developing the environmentally friendly design principles of civil engineering and streamlining its construction process. In response to the preceding trend, structural engineering has to evolve in various aspects, e.g. the innovation in structural system, structural analysis theory and design methods and the proposal of new methods for structural disaster prevention and mitigation, development of innovative construction techniques, application of high performance materials, the promotion of recycling construction waste, etc.
Hosted by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, organized by the School of Civil Engineering of CQU, the International Top-level Forum on Engineering Science and Technology Development Strategy will be held during May 14-17, 2016 in Chong Qing. The forum would involve the global and domestic development trend of civil engineering as well as the new high-performance structural system, life design of structure, disaster prevention of structure, green buildings construction technology based on efficient use of resource, environmental-friendly construction technology of offshore and island engineering, standardized generation design technology of building industrialization, complex construction technology of super high-rise building and development trend of environmental-friendly building materials. The forum is expected to discuss about the innovation and development of structure in engineering and bring forward the countermeasures on the future development of domestic buildings based on the achievement and advice of domestic and foreign experts.
